Stacking the Talent Bench (Again)

Talent is foundational to everything we do at TheGP. We believe that the best way to help founders win is to work with them to build extraordinary teams, which is why we’re excited to announce that Bret Reckard is joining TheGP as our newest Talent Partner.

Bret joins us from Sequoia Capital, where he was one of the original leaders to define Talent’s role in venture. While there, he built a reputation for identifying exceptional people long before they were on others’ radar and created systems that helped portfolio companies consistently hire the best.

He works tirelessly to identify the best people regardless of current availability and then cultivates strong networks around those people that compound value and opportunity over time.

As we enter the deflationary era of software, where AI is fundamentally changing how products are built and teams are structured, having the right talent is becoming even more critical. The companies that win adapt quickly and leverage smaller, more versatile teams that can do more with less. Bret’s approach—building novel systems to identify the exceptional people who can navigate these shifting dynamics—is tailor-made for this new reality.

At TheGP, our mission is to be founders' best chance at success through deep partnership and shoulder-to-shoulder building. Our sweat equity model solves problems for companies rather than just dispensing advice from the sidelines. This alignment is precisely why Bret's approach resonates so deeply with our firm's guiding principle that venture firms can and should do more for the people they serve.

We’re thrilled to have Bret do the work with us at TheGP. If you're a founder who wants to build the greatest team possible or you’re a builder looking for something new, please reach out.
